Halloween Hours & Events in Northville, Novi, and South Lyon - 2018

by The Jamey Kramer Group

Halloween Hours & Events in Northville, Novi, and South Lyon - 2018

Halloween is the time of year when your whole neighborhood turns out to meet each other and opens their doors for the cute kids in their bright costumes.

It is a magical time and like no other day of the year for this reason. This fun tradition gives us all the chance to step outside our doors and see our neighbors face to face, or to walk through our cities and towns, knocking on doors for no other reason than to share in the fun.

If you don't have children to take trick-or-treating, consider buying a few bags of candy and turning on your porch light this Wednesday. The great thing about kids is that they don't care whether you have a single pumpkin on your porch. If you have free candy, you are automatically their hero!

One of the best things about Halloween, from our perspective, is that it gives you, as a family, a perspective on your wonderful community that we get to see all the time! You might not know it yet, but you have wonderful, interesting and kind neighbors all around you. That is truly the thing which gives homes their value.

You may have already participated in Halloween and harvest festivities in a variety of ways through churches or schools. However, luckily, these local communities are all safe places where you can take your kids and be assured of friendly neighbors with a light on and a bucket of scrumptious candy. Don't miss the opportunity to participate in trick-or-treating on Halloween night!

There are 116 skeletons scattered all over downtown Northville this year. As an extra frightful treat, you can also see the spiders take over town square!

Northville trick-or-treat hours are 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and the streets in Northville's Historic District will be closed 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Novi, Michigan Trick-or-Treat Hours & Events:

As a recommendation, Novi's hours are from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. per Novi City Hall.

South Lyon, Michigan Trick-or-Treat Hours:

South Lyon’s trick-or-treat hours are from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Bringing it Home

Even if you haven't done much for Halloween yet, you can get in on the fun by visiting Northville's skeleton and spider display, attending a senior's lunch in Novi, or just opening your doors to the bunches of cute kids who are about to flood the streets in their costumes.

We hope you make some new connections and strengthen old ones with your neighbors. Have a wonderful Halloween!

Admission:

  • $9 per person that includes farm admission and tractor wagon ride to and from the maze.
  • Admission for children 2 and under is free.

*The last wagon leaves for the corn maze 1 hour before closing time

One of the most popular fall activities in the Midwest, where corn is abundant, is a corn maze. Many of the adults who grew up in the area can remember playing and hiding in fields of corn throughout the summer months. Conquering a scary or challenging corn maze has long been considered a fall right of passage.

This year at Maybury, the corn maze is set to be exceptional. There are 10 acres of lustrous corn being cut into a brand new, never-before-seen design. The theme this year is "Farmers Feed Families."

It's not just any maze! It will take you over an hour to complete. You will play three different games as you make your way through it. Those who complete the whole challenge may enter to win a big prize at the end of the season.

If you or your kiddos aren't up for the 1 hour, 9-acre challenge, a 1-acre maze has been constructed just for the little ones. It only takes 20 minutes to complete. In addition, if you want an extra challenge, the nighttime maze run may be just for you. On Fridays and Saturdays, the maze will be open until 10:00 p.m. so you can make a spooky night of it.

Parmenter’s Cider and Donuts

In addition to the Corn maze, don't forget Parmenter's Cider Mill’s cider and donuts will be available in the farm's general store.

If you want the full Michigan fall day experience without visiting several locations, plan to enjoy Northville's own cider and donuts from Parmenter's. This cider mill dates back to 1873 in the city of Northville. It's the next best thing to visiting Parmenter's itself.

Child with pumpkin at May FarmU-Pick Pumpkin Patch

This is the perfect time to visit the pumpkin patch for your very own pumpkin or two (or three or four) to decorate your front porch. Maybury Farm has pumpkins on the vine.

October is the last month for visitors to the farm to see the animals.

Make a day of your Maybury Farm visit by petting and feeding the animals before the farm closes for the winter. Say hello and goodbye-for-now to all your favorite furry friends.

  • Location: McHattie Park, 400 Dorothy Street, South Lyon, Michigan.

If you grew up in Michigan, you might have heard about the Mackinac Bridge walk which takes place every Labor Day. Up to 65,000 participants walk the "Mighty Mac" every year to celebrate its construction, and typically Michigan's governor leads the way. One year, even President George H. W. Bush participated in the walk.

If you can't make it all the way up to the "top of the mitten" this year, you can bring the kids and participate in South Lyon's bridge walk. Come to celebrate community and help further Michigan's pledge to "Get Michigan Moving."

This event is meant to link communities together through a shared healthy activity. It's a free event running along the beautiful Huron Valley Rail Trail. As with the Mackinac Bridge event, the full route is 5 miles, but participants have the option of walking only 2.5 miles - which is perfect for a young family!

The meeting spot for this event is near the parking lot on the north side of McHattie Park near the pavilion and the tot lot. South Lyon asks that participants leave pets at home for the safety and comfort of all walkers.

Pre-register with South Lyon Recreation online at www.slrec.net, over the phone at 248-437-8105 or in person at 318 W Lake Street, South Lyon, Michigan.

Visit the City of South Lyon website at www.southlyonmi.org for more information.
