Halloween Hours & Events in Northville, Novi, and South Lyon - 2018

Halloween is the time of year when your whole neighborhood turns out to meet each other and opens their doors for the cute kids in their bright costumes.

It is a magical time and like no other day of the year for this reason. This fun tradition gives us all the chance to step outside our doors and see our neighbors face to face, or to walk through our cities and towns, knocking on doors for no other reason than to share in the fun.

If you don't have children to take trick-or-treating, consider buying a few bags of candy and turning on your porch light this Wednesday. The great thing about kids is that they don't care whether you have a single pumpkin on your porch. If you have free candy, you are automatically their hero!

One of the best things about Halloween, from our perspective, is that it gives you, as a family, a perspective on your wonderful community that we get to see all the time! You might not know it yet, but you have wonderful, interesting and kind neighbors all around you. That is truly the thing which gives homes their value.

You may have already participated in Halloween and harvest festivities in a variety of ways through churches or schools. However, luckily, these local communities are all safe places where you can take your kids and be assured of friendly neighbors with a light on and a bucket of scrumptious candy. Don't miss the opportunity to participate in trick-or-treating on Halloween night!

Halloween Events

Northville trick-or-treat hours are 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and the streets in Northville's Historic District will be closed 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Even if you haven't done much for Halloween yet, you can get in on the fun by visiting Northville's skeleton and spider display, attending a senior's lunch in Novi, or just opening your doors to the bunches of cute kids who are about to flood the streets in their costumes.

We hope you make some new connections and strengthen old ones with your neighbors. Have a wonderful Halloween!

Memorial Day Parades in Northville, Novi, and South Lyon, Michigan

by The Jamey Kramer Group

Memorial Day Parades in Northville, Novi, and South Lyon, Michigan

Americans look forward to Memorial Day weekend for many reasons. Usually, it marks one of the first warm, summer-like weekends. Because it’s a federal holiday, it gives us extra time to spend time with our loved ones, families, and friends.

But as admirable as that is, this holiday exists as a remembrance for those brave souls who gave their lives in wars so that you and I can remain free.

On the memorial in Novi, dedicated on May 30, 1952, it reads: “in memory of all veterans who gave their lives that we may live.” Simply said, but very appropriate.

Did you know Memorial Day has been around since 1868? Major General John A. Logan instituted Decoration Day in May. The idea was for people of our nation to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers of the Union Army, after the Civil War, “with choicest flowers of springtime.” Businesses would close and flags would fly at half-mast.

Later, after the first World War, the day was appropriated to honor the fallen from all American wars. In Michigan, Decoration Day was made into a state holiday in 1871 and in 1882, Decoration Day became Memorial Day. In 1971, Memorial Day was made a national holiday and placed on the last Monday in May.

What better way to enter into the spirit of the day than to bring your loved ones and friends to watch or even be in your community’s parade? If you live in Novi, Northville or South Lyon you are fortunate! There are events happening in each community.

Novi wants you to be in the parade! If you own a business, have a band, are part of a scout troop, a civic organization, a family who wants to march together, or even a kid with a decorated bike - you can join in!

This event doesn’t only honor the fallen, but also our veterans and those currently serving in the military. This is especially great for those who have family members who are currently in the military. For information about how to participate in the parade, visit the City of Novi’s website.

In addition, Novi is hosting a Memorial Day run, starting at 8 a.m. on Monday, May 28. There will be a 5K and 10K starting at 8:00 am and a 1-mile fun run starting at 9:00 a.m. Each participant receives a free t-shirt. Veterans, returning runners or canned food donations are $5 off!

South Lyon, Michigan Pumpkinfest 2017

by The Jamey Kramer Group

South Lyon’s 33-year tradition continues this year as the city gears up for fall weather. Come enjoy the sunny days as the air turns crisp and be part of your community in Downtown South Lyon. The heart of Pumpkinfest has been to support its nonprofit businesses through visiting their booths and hearing about what they do. They all show up and put on games just to tell the community about the vital roles they serve.

South Lyon’s Pumpkinfest was also started to benefit the local churches, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts clubs of South Lyon, and its athletic programs. Because of community support and the continuing efforts of those who are part of Pumpkinfest every year, this celebration has been able to donate $125,000 to these great programs.
