Making Maple Sugar Tours in Southeast Michigan – Maybury Farm & More

by The Jamey Kramer Group

One of the most Michigan things you can do is to attend a Maple Syrup or Maple Sugar tour at one of our many parks throughout Southeast Michigan. You may not know how popular and fun it is to learn how to tap Maple trees for their syrup.

There are several ways you can participate in this annual ritual, and even take home some of the sweet stuff for yourself. And, there is still time!

Maybury Farm Making Maple Syrup Tours

Maybury Farm

  • 50165 8 Mile Rd., Northville, MI 48167
  • March 31, 2018
  • 1:00 pm, 1:45 pm, 2:30 pm, and 3:15 pm
  • Cost: $7.00 per person and children 2 and under are free.

This is a full family event and your kids will love it. If you have ever wondered how maple syrup is made or have read about it but never seen it in action, you can take a tour to find out.

Tours begin with a wagon ride out to Maybury Farm’s Sugar Bush. Upon arrival, a guide will take you to the maple woods to learn about which trees give sap good for syrup, how best to “tap” a tree for sap, and how it is collected so as not to waste it. Participants can even taste the sap straight from the tree!

Another wagon ride takes you to the “sugar shack” for the cooking down demonstration. You will get to see firsthand how the sap is cooked to make maple syrup we know and love. In addition, you will learn all about how it gets graded, and why, and how you can make your very own maple syrup at home!

Your tour concludes with the chance to warm up at the Maybury Farm Welcome Center with hot drinks, snacks, and a blazing wood stove reminiscent of pioneer times. You can buy your own jug of Michigan maple syrup to take home and a book of free recipes that work well with maple syrup - not that you’ll have any problem eating it up!

Kids of all ages will benefit from the outdoors and learn a lot about one of the oldest gathering techniques in America!

This is a very popular event and space is limited. The earlier you arrive, the better, to reserve a spot. Private farm tours are available for groups of 15 or more: call 248-374-0200.

The cost for the Making Maple Syrup Tours is $7.00 per person and children 2 and under are free.

Visit www.mayburyfarm.org to learn more or please call 248-916-3033.

  • March 31, 2018 and April 1, 2018
  • Time: 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm
  • Cost: $5 adult, $3 child*

Kensington Metropark is one of Southeast Michigan’s great treasures. It is also offering guided Maple Sugaring tours March 31.

This is a guided walk through Kensington Metropark’s Farm Center sugar bush. You can learn everything from how the ancient Native Americans collected maple sap and turned it into sugar and syrup, to how to choose the right tree for sap, to how sap has been collected and boiled down over time.

This process hasn’t changed very much over the years. Samples at the end of your tour and syrup available for purchase. Or step into the Farmhouse Grille to down a stack of pancakes with pure Michigan maple syrup.

Tours begin every half hour and last about 1 hour. They are entirely outdoors, so dress appropriately!

* Please note that a Metropark vehicle entry permit is required to enter any Metropark. The cost is $35 annually for regular admission, $21 annually for seniors or $10 daily.

Top Real Estate Articles 2017

As we are all settling into this new year and trying to stay warm, we at The Jamey Kramer Group are taking stock of 2017. We have come to appreciate this custom of reflecting on the past year and looking forward to all that the new year holds.

We’ve been grateful to serve the communities of Novi, Northville, and South Lyon in Oakland County, Michigan. We have so many valued clients and are thankful for your continued support and trust.

The other thing we love about what we do is the opportunity to build up the community through this blog. It only highlights the amazing things the community has to offer. We wouldn’t have all of the unique things to write about if the community we serve wasn’t so vibrant and exciting.

Every year, we look forward to promoting the community’s events and finding out about new ones.

Another standout from 2017 has been the exciting comeback of the real estate market after almost 10 years of slow growth. In fact, it’s been such a comeback that we’ve published many articles about the competition over new homes and the relative shortage of new homes.

Mostly, it’s a privilege to walk alongside singles, couples, and families selling or buying their homes this year. We love that we get to be part of this exciting process, and we continue to be dedicated to doing whatever it takes for you.

For that reason, we are always searching for the newest trends and news so that we can be your source for any real estate or community questions, concerns or news.

We know how hard it is to buy or sell a home - especially this last year. But we’re here to help. We like to share the knowledge we’ve gained from doing over and over again what most people only do a few times in their lifetime. We always want to know what you want to read about - and we’re always just a phone call away.

One way to find out what our online readership was especially interested in is to round up our top 10 articles for 2017 via Google Analytics. So according to Google, here’s what you all responded to the most. Hopefully, you will find good advice to revisit or a new article you haven’t read yet. Happy New Year and happy reading!

Novi and Northville Listed Among Top 10 Schools Districts in Michigan

by The Jamey Kramer Group

Top schools districts in Michigan

The famous Niche site has published the top schools in America. We were not surprised that Novi Community School District and Northville Public Schools are among the top ten school districts in Michigan. Novi was ranked number 6, and Northville placed number 10 in the 2018 Best School Districts in Michigan.

In addition, Novi High School captured the number 1 spot in the Best Magnet High Schools in Michigan category and the number 4 spot in the Best Public High Schools in Michigan category.

Every year Niche publishes a list of the top schools in the United States. Using key statistics and millions of student’s and parent reviews, Niche comes up with lists of the best schools in your city, state, and in the United States. If you want to know what private school is rated the best, they have the answer. You do not have to look any further if you want to know what schools have the best teachers, best athletics, or best schools for the arts.

Niche is a small team based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania that collects data that produces “comprehensive ranking, report cards, and profiles for every K-12 school, college, and neighborhood in the U.S.” Niche takes polls and reviews from over 100 million students and parents.

Why Schools Matter

So, what is the big deal? If you don’t have children when buying a home, what does being a top -rated school really matter? According to Zillow, buying a home in a good school district means that the cost of buying a home will be higher in price. However, it will make a huge difference in resale value.

Zillow also states that it will also protect you from the real estate market ups and downs. Therefore, buying a home in a good school district, regardless if a school personally impacts you, the quality of the district will impact your home value.

Melissa’s Story

In fact, mom of three, Melissa, said that choosing a home in a top-rated school was not only on her list of desires when looking for a home, but it was a must have. Melissa’s family was growing and they needed more space.

When they bought their first home, they knew they were eventually going to have a family. So, they chose to buy a home in a highly ranked school district. When it came time to sell, Melissa’s family was able to sell their home within three weeks on the market. That doesn’t happen for everybody, but the chances of selling, regardless if you have children or not, is higher when your schools are better.

Additionally, when Melissa’s family was ready to buy their second home she stated,

“With three young children at home, their education is a top priority for our family. We cannot even consider a home in a poorly rated school district, even if it means that we will pay a little more for our home.”

When choosing a home, being mindful of the quality of school district is important. Every individual and family will have to take into account their own priorities and what they can afford.

However, if you are interested in moving to the Northville or Novi area, you can rest assured that the school districts are highly rated. This high rating will help the value of the homes in the area, as well as, help with resale value.
