Fireworks in Novi – What You Need to Know

In the past 3 years, Michigan’s law concerning fireworks has changed quite a bit.

2012: The Michigan Fireworks Safety Act was passed by the State Legislature. This has allowed more types of fireworks to be sold in Michigan including the following fireworks:

  • Bottle Rockets
  • Sparklers
  • Roman Candles
  • Snaps
  • Snakes
  • Poppers

2013: “The Common Sense Bill”, this has allowed local communities the right to regulate the time of day when fireworks can be discharged. This starts today, the day before a holiday and will continue until the day after a holiday.

According to the City of Novi, the discharge of fireworks between the hours of 8:00 am and 12:00 pm is strictly prohibited. This includes all major holidays except New Year’s Day when it changes to 1:00 am instead of 12:00 pm.
