Have you heard of the Great American Backyard Campout?

Summer is officially here and this summer is full of family-friendly fun and free events in Novi, Michigan. From signing up for a summer reading club at the library and participating in free events at Fuerst Park, to a great American campout happening this weekend and a visit to the Farmers’ Market, your summer days will be packed with fun.

In Novi, the best doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg. Here is a list of cost effective events to make plans for now to enjoy this summer.

Novi Public Library’s Summer Reading Program

Summer reading programs are always a great activity to sign the kids up for. From now until August 2nd, your child can be part of the Summer Reading Program. You can sign up at the library or online.

For every 2 hours your child reads, he or she will earn a prize and be entered into a drawing for a grand prize. If your child reads for 10 hours, they will be invited to a finale party.

Sizzling Summer Tremendous Tuesdays

Fuerst Park / Library in Inclement Weather

Program runs from June 17 - August 12
No registration required.

If you are looking for something fun and exciting to do with the kids this summer, the Novi Library and the Novi Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services have you covered.

The morning will start with a magic, puppet and juggling performance at the Fuerst Park - weather permitting. Then everyone will head to the library to pick some of their favorite books to read. For more information, please see: Sizzling Summer Tremendous Tuesdays.

Great American Backyard Campout

This is the 10th Great American Backyard Campout brought to you by the National Wildlife Federation. The goal is to get kids all across the nation to unplug and connect with nature.

Whether you are camping in your tent in your own backyard or you and the family head to a campground, you will be all set to participate in this year’s Great American Campout.

Novi Farmers’ Market

This Saturday, June 28th kicks off the first of many Novi Farmers’ Markets. Every Saturday through September 2 from 9 am until 2 pm, plan to come down and enjoy all the local, fresh and organic produce.

Novi really does have a number of cost effective family friendly things to do this summer. Have a wonderful weekend camping out and eating fresh food from the Farmers’ Market.
