Recycling

Do you need to get rid of unwanted prescription drugs?

Are you looking for a place to dispose of household hazardous waste?

Earlier this week, we shared with you about the City of Novi’s passion for minimizing their carbon footprint. To put that passion into action, today, we will share with you how the city lives out their promise to keep things green.

Whether you are looking for a volunteer opportunity, or a place to recycle all that junk mail, you will find a place to do that in Novi, Michigan. Please scroll through the information below to see what best suits your needs.

Arbor Day

This Saturday is Arbor Day, which is a day to remind us to give back to our community by planting trees. This Saturday along side of the City of Novi, you can volunteer to help plant and mulch trees. The annual celebration will be between the hours of 9 am – 12 pm and will be held at the Lakeshore Park at 601 South Lake Drive.

Household Hazardous Waste Day

Oakland County is gearing up to rid the county of hazardous waste from around home. According to the City of Novi’s website, Novi, along with other cities in the area, has partnered with the RRRASOC - Resources Recovery and Recycling Authority of Southern Oakland County- to have a site open this Saturday.

Depending on what you need to drop off will depend on where you need to go. For any of the items listed below, your drop off can be either the Novi Public Library parking lot or the parking lot between Deerfield Elementary and Novi Middle School. When dropping off, you will be looking for an Abitibi Paper Retriever container and you don’t even have to worry about sorting.

  • White copy and lined paper
  • Colored copy paper
  • Soft cover books
  • Newspaper
  • Junk mail

For other items like phone books, glass bottles, big #2 plastic, microwave ovens, scanners, and printers, this weekend the Resources Recovery and Recycling Authority of Southern Oakland County is hosting an event in Southfield where you can drop all that and more off. Come any time between the hours of 9 am and 12 pm.

Drug Take Back Day

Drug Take Back Day is being hosted by the Novi Police Department and will be held at the Novi Police headquarters. The goal of this event is to help prevent pill abuse by properly disposing of unwanted prescription drugs.

While the Novi Police Department will always accept unwanted prescription drugs, this Saturday between 10 am and 2 pm you can help in preventing pill abuse too. The service is free and completely anonymous.

Summary

One of my personal favorite things about Novi is that the city officials don’t just talk. Instead, they work hard at making their city a better place and follow through on their promises.
